Many hybrid SUVs deliver improved fuel economy, but their performance is limited in some way. After all, trade-offs need to be made. Well, that is definitely not the case with the 2011 BMX ActiveHybrid X6.

This hybrid SUV offers a modest (or low depending on your expectations) fuel economy of 17 mpg city, 19 mpg highway. However, it delivers 480 hp and 575 lb-ft of torque. And the SUV can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds.

To achieve that acceleration, this 2011 BMW uses a combination of a 400-hp 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with direct fuel injection and two electric motors. Power is delivered to the wheels via a seven-speed, two-mode automatic transmission. Depending on how the X6 is driven, the SUV has a range of up to 405 miles with its 22.5 gallon fuel tank.

When it comes to performance, the hybrid borrows on the reputation of the gasoline-only BMW X6. That vehicle has been dubbed a SAC (sports activity coupe) and a SAV (sports activity vehicle) by several reviewers. The general consensus is that the 2011 BMW ActiveHybrid X6 has one of the most powerful powertrains on the market today.

Being a BMW, and a performance-oriented one at that, the 2011 X6 comes with a hefty price tag. MSRP is $88,900. However, that price includes many high-end standard features such as 20-inch “Aero” design alloy wheels, a distinctive “powerdome” hood, running boards, extended leather upholstery, heated multi-contour front seats, 4-zone climate control, keyless access, and a voice-activated hard drive-based navigation system.

The SUV is also loaded with safety features. According to AOL Autos, these features include anti-lock disc brakes, Dynamic Stability Control with traction control and rollover sensor, front and rear parking sensors, a rearview camera with Top View, BMW Assist and a tire pressure monitor. There are also active front head restraints, front side-impact airbags, and overhead curtain airbags for both rows of seats.

The 2011 ActiveHybrid X6 also has some interesting option packs. For example, there is a Cold Weather Package that includes a heated steering wheel, retractable headlight washers, heater rear seats, and rear seat pass through ski bag.
